Fireworks! =)

Juz came back from supper at Bedok Market... Its been a long time ever since I ate there liao... 想当年那里是我的地盘 :) Went out with my aunt, uncle and my 2 cousins to the Singapore Fireworks Celebration '08 at the Marina Bay Floating Gallery... The fireworks were nice but the light drizzle was abit irritating, and the tons of ppl squeezing ard wasnt exactly wad I asked for when I agreed to go, lolx... Nonetheless, it was a well-spent Sat eveining-till-night :D Took quite a few pics of various stuff tat I saw along the way after going in... There were many diff stalls showcasing artworks, and I managed to capture some of the nicer ones...

Cool logo!

I wanna float ard too! :D

The 2nd Miracle!

I'm in! :)

I'm in! :)

I'm in! :)

In case u're wondering wad's happening, I juz got into WSC's RSP FOC (Welfare Services Club - Regular Service Project - Friends Of Children), which to me is another miracle given to me by God! The interviews were on Mon and Tues from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, and I went down on the 2nd day... Was thinking of joining FOC but my kiasu-ism (contributed by some of my frens who already went for the interview, cos they were saying better try out for more than one portfolio in case you dont get in) let me to go for the Youth interview as well... If u read my previous post, u'll know tat the Youth interview didnt go too well and I was sortof pinning all my hopes on FOC...

Well... Guess wad? At 12.56am last night, or rather early today morning, I received an sms telling me tat I'm accepted into both and tat I will hav to choose one! Can u imagine tat? I can only say its by God's grace tat it can happen, esp since there are like hundreds of ppl going for the various interviews during tat 2 days... Praise God yea!! :) I'm so glad tat I'm gonna be a part of WSC, and tat I'll be reaching out to children on a weekly basis soon! :D

My pride & joy! Go WSC! :)

I shall 顺便 publicise for my sch as well...Found the following cool logo somewhere in EdveNTUre :)

SPMS rox! :)

Well tat's all for now, still on Cloud 9 after knowing tat I'm accepted into 2 portfolios and had to choose one, lolx... Hope to update soon on my first meeting with the kids! :D

WSC Interview

Juz in case u didnt noe by now, Singapore got a silver medal for table tennis!!! :D Was watching the Gold Medal Doubles Match between China & Singapore after I came back from Suntec on Sunday... We lost the first 3 sets and got ourselves a Silver... 11-8, 11-5 and 11-6 was the scores if I rmbr correctly... Well, at least we got ourselves something after 48 yrs :) After tat was the singles badminton match but between this Malaysia guy and the World No. 1 from China... Muz give the Malaysian guy credit for his efforts, although in the end I think he still lost (didnt manage to finish watching though cos I went back to Hall)... Anyway it was nice being able to watch the Olympics for once and not juz glancing thru every TV set I see along the way... Managed to watch abit of basketball on the bus ride too, and it was reli nice watching them play at such a level... Onli know tat in the end Spain won 98-50 and went on to the Semi-finals... Hopefully I get to watch more badminton, haha! :D

Well, I juz came back from WSC Interview... Went for both RSP FOC (Friends Of Children) and RSP Youth... The Children one was still ok, basically was like chatting with the two ladies, lolx... Managed to ans all their qns and after tat when they asked if I hav any qns I sortof asked them how's their exp. so far after one yr in RSP FOC, like I'm interviewing them back, haha :) Well it was a nice session tat I had with them :)

As for the Youth one, I think CMI liao... Everything was still ok until they gave me a scenerio and asked for my opinion... "If a youth u knew was planning a fight in sch, what would you do?" I hesitated for awhile and the gist of wad I said was tat I would find out wad happened, then try my best to persuade him and stop him, but if he reli wanted to still carry out his plan then there's nothing tat I can do (I think this is the part tat I so-called "answered wrongly") When I thought abt it after I left I knew I was a goner, lolx... I mean, I actually told them that there's a possibility that I'll let him carry on with the fight? Although there's a chance that it can actually happen, but I suppose tat's not wad they wanna hear :( Perhaps I shd hav said tat I'll lure the guy away or try to delay him... Something along those lines bah... Well, in any case, I trust tat God will place me somewhere where I can make a difference... In the first place my focus was on chidren anyway, juz went for the youth interview cos everyone's saying to try for more than one in case u r not accepted... I'll noe the results on Friday, hopefully its good news!

Ok juz a few more updates, ytd at Math tutorial I got to know 2 China guys who's super pro in Math la... One of them can proof the following in 5 lines!!

So I hav decided that I shall bug him if there's anything I dunno, haha... For them they've already learnt proofs in more detail than us back in China, so its like an appetizer to them... The other guy was quite nice too, sat with him during C++ Lecture :)

Then today we learnt the precise definition of limits as well! I shall share with you the following formula, cos if u know and understand it u can become a Mathematician liao! :D

Btw, Econs is getting interesting as well, although I'm juz at Price Elasticity in Micro and GDP/GNP in Macro... Reli hav to start reading my textbks so tat I'll get a better understanding of this new subject in my life :) I realised tat Econs is reli a very practical subject, and many of the concepts can be applied into daily life... C++ is oso getting more fun as we learn to write more complicated programs, and I can oso start to appreciate the power of such a programming language... As for Linguistics, tutorials are more like discussion sessions, in which most of the qns hav no right or wrong answers, cos it reli depends on ur perspective in some ways and how u justify urself... In a way its similar to discussing GP Essay Qns, lolx... I guess it can be gd or bad, depending on how u see it... The gd thing is tat even if u did not do ur tutorial beforehand, u can like juz "smoke" ur way thru and juz gif some explanation, but the bad thing is prob during exams the way ur scripts are marked will be quite subjective, at least for the essay qns...

Well, in general I suppose u can say tat I'm still coping, lolx... At least so far I managed to prepare every tutorial b4 the tutor goes thru the qns :) Juz hope tat I'll get into WSC, and then I can reli look forward to a fun and meaningful exp. in NTU! :D

My first "book out"!

Left my rm at 12.30pm today...

Seemed like a "book out", lolx...

In many ways, staying in Hall is like NS, with the exception tat u can come and go as u wish, lolx...

Do bear with me, this post is gonna be filled with many random thoughts :)

Ok let's begin with ytd's welcome tea by the Welfare Services Club... It was simply amazing, the kind of presentations they gave... I for one was "wowed"! :D Targeting a few of the portfolios, mainly is the RSP FOC (Regular Service Project Friends Of Children) and the OVE (Overseas Volunteering Expedition)... Well here are some of the freebies I got from the welcome tea :)

Diff aspects of WSC

So cute right! =)

Next let me tell u abt the location of my Hall (I'm in Hall 8 btw)... Take a look at this next building... Couldnt reli capture the full view of the building, but I can sat tat this is one of the nicest buildings ard... Its the ADM (Art, Design & Media) sch, and my rm is like 2 mins walk from the bus stop opp. it :)

ADM

For now I havent posted pics of my rm up yet though I noe there is a demand to see it, lolx... Shall wait until I finalize and bring in everything b4 I show it to u guys :) Be patient ok?

Ok I bought the textbk for my latest module, the one tat I "snatched"... The contents are reli interesting, if anyone wants to take a look I can lend it to you after my course, haha...

Contemporary Linguistics

After 2 weeks in sch, I muz say tat I'm still adapting in a way... Academic wise, so far I understand almost everything except for tat Math part where I need to proof stuff I've never reli paid attention to b4... My room is quite cosy in the sense tat I can reli do my work properly or juz slack there :) Found Weilin to go Math Lecture with me (n Linguistics too) and he promised to go look for his badminton racket to bring in next wk... Mine is already in there, together with my badminton shoes... Ready to play anytime :D Thank God tat I oso got to know a few more frens who take the exact same course as me! Oh ya, the fd there is reli cheap and gd (if u noe where to eat la)... Anyone coming NTU feel free to let me noe, I'll treat u to a meal :) As for CCA, like wad I mentioned above, I'm thinking of joining WSC... I think it'll be cool to be around young children/youth, to be their mentor, to make a positive difference and to guide them thru life :) And if the opportunity arises, I'll want to go overseas (like so many other ppl I know have done) and build libraries, homes, and juz interact with the ppl and immerse in their culture! Some ppl say tat my course is not easy, and I'm taking a risk by choosing to study Econs cos I've nv taken it b4... Well, to a certain extent I agree with them... But then again, if I dont step out of my comfort zone, I wouldnt realise my full potential right? Of cos it'll be comfortable to juz study Math I suppose, but then the opportunity to be open to other stuff would be lost... For now, some say tat in a way I'm doing a half science, half arts degree, but to me its a chance tat I've gotten to reli expand my horizons and learn stuff tat I nv imagined I would be able to learn :D Indeed, the University Experience will only be as cool and 'wow-able' as how we see it as an individual... I dont dare say tat there wont be obstacles but I dare say tat I'll want to make full use of this opportunity given to me to study in NTU, to make the full use of my 4 yrs here and enjoy it as much as I can!!! :)

Wow I sound like I'm making a speech, lolx... N if u've read this far I reli thank you for ur patience :) You muz be a loyal fan to even hav read this far! Stay tuned for more updates! :D

Looking Good =)

Things are definitely looking better for me so far =)

Some simple updates...

1. I finally got my elective module ytd afternoon at abt 3pm... Its a linguistic module, and here's the course description for those of u out there who's wondering wad exactly it is:

"FUNDAMENTALS OF LINGUISTICS(B): STRUCTURE AND SYSTEM"

"This course presents an introduction to the sound and morphological systems of languages in the world. Students will learn to systematically examine smaller units of language by studying basic phonetics, phonology and morphology. Upon completing the course, students will be able to examine how language varies across speakers depending on their social and geographical backgrounds. They will also understand how power and attitude influence language use."

Its reli a miracle how I got, or rather 'snatched' this module, lolx... Some of you will hav heard how I got it, and I think u agree with me tat this is indeed a miracle tat is given by God :) Its not exactly a short story, and you need some background info, so those of you who are interested to find out more abt this miracle in my life, feel free to approach me and I'll fill you in on the details :)

2. Ytd I oso went to look at wad the various CCAs had to offer and a few of them caught my eye, namely Welfare Services Club (very high chance tat I'll join this), Ice-Skating Club (this is more of for fun la), Piano Ensemble (quite self-explanatory rite?) and Jazz & Blues (I get to play the keyboard as part of a full band in this one too!)

Welfare Services Club

A brief description...
Welfare Services Club is one of the largest student clubs in NTU. Currently, the club has over 500 student volunteers engaged in a wide array of volunteer work. Our main objectives are to promote voluntary service among students in NTU and beyond, and to instill a sense of social awareness among students and staff of NTU. Established since 1984, the club has continued to provide ample voluntary opportunities for all that are willing to take a step forward. Come join the WSC big family and experience and extraordinary undergraduate life!

With abit more colour :)

Maybe you're thinking...
"This guy doesnt have enough of CIP last time?" But I truly believe tat this is a very meaningful CCA, because I've always believed in making a positive difference in other ppl's life :) In this CCA, I get to reach out to children, youth and those who are handicapped... On top of tat, I may get the chance to go for overseas trips, camps and expeditions and its juz so exciting la! :) To me, I'm happy by knowing tat I've contributed juz tat little bit more to our society :D

3. I finally printed my notes up to date with the colour laser printer in my rm :) Gearing up for the tutorials during the weekend... I sound like a super mugger la, lolx...

4. Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful ppl who have been with me these first 2 weeks of sch, hearing my complaints and yet encouraging me, and oso sharing my joys together with me, esp. when the late night smses of "I finally got my Linguistics module" got thru! You guys noe who you are, thanks for being a bunch of great friends! :)))

I'm so looking forward to the Welfare Services Club's tea party tml evening... Shall find out more from the various sections in the club and decide if I wanna join them :D
